The Infant Community is a place where children can develop their movement, independence and language. A place where the child is allowed to repeat activities, helped to make independent choices and gain confidence in their own abilities.
The Infant Community focuses on four distinctive areas of learning to help the child acquire skills towards independence, self-discipline and confidence.
Hand-eye coordination. Activities in this area start with simple puzzles moving to more complex activities like sewing, gluing. Developing your child’s coordination as they progress, especially gaining control over their hand.
Practical life. This area includes activities of everyday life, giving your child real experiences. The activities offered are real such as snack preparation, dish washing, sweeping, caring for plants, flower arranging, window cleaning and caring for animals. These activities foster the child’s growth and assist the child in mastering movements.
Language. This area enriches your child’s spoken language. There are miniature objects and cards relating to their immediate environment of the home and offering the wider environment as they progress. Language is brought to life through the many stories told and read, as well as singing and poetry.
Art and music. In this area the child develops their artistic skills from simple to complex. Painting, cutting, gluing, modelling are all introduced one at a time. Music is gently introduced through playing percussion instruments, listening to music, rhymes and rhythms. Art and music help to integrate both parts of the brain.
